Since
1922
Carmela Falzon established a small hardware shop casa Bottega, known as ‘Tal-Lupep’, in the vicinity of Our Lady of Victories, Qormi.
1940
The business was passed over to her sons Stanley and George. They started manufacturing paint by physically mixing the white lead paste with linseed oil, and coloring it according to request.
Through its subsidiary, Vella Falzon Building Supplies Ltd, the Group is the local representative of some of the world’s leading brands in the respective sectors.
In the 1950s the brothers started to import ready-mixed paints from British Paints Ltd., UK, and introduced plastic emulsion paint in Malta.
1960
G & S Falzon branched to hardware, plate-glass, sanitaryware, and specialised in paint. Stanley ventured into contracting for industrial estates, government schools, and roads.
Mapei agreement with VF Building supplies in 1969.
1970
G & S Falzon became a limited liability company, establishing itself as the market leader in importing and distributing professional building materials, sanitaryware, ceramics, and industrial/domestic paints.
Third-generation Falzons, the three sons of George – Paul, Joseph and Tonio, and the son of Stanley – Costantino, complete the take-over of the business under the guidance and direction of Alex Vella, who married into the family.
Paint imports are restricted in Malta and G & S Falzon Ltd. was instrumental in the start-up of Berger Paints Malta to manufacture paints locally, becoming a shareholder and co-distributor.
Fourth-generation Alexis and Karina part-take the running of Vella Falzon Building Supplies Ltd., which became a subsidiary of Vella Falzon Group, whilst Nicolai attended to the legal aspect of the family business. Major contracts of turn-key projects became the mainstay of the business. Relations with Berger paints draw to a close, and paints were sourced from abroad. Major contracts, like The Coastline Hotel, Seabank Hotel, Intercontinental Hotel, Costa San Antonio, Radisson Blu Golden Sands, and Palm City Tripoli Libya were won and successfully completed.
The company started contracting joinery and furniture for hotels and domestic use and importing reputable furniture brands. The new showroom, Vella Falzon Home in Valley Road, Msida has been set up as an original concept of “one-stop-shop showcase”.
Present
Due to heavy requests, the projects department is consolidated by a dedicated team of project managers, architects, designers, and construction consultants. Today, the Vella Falzon family strives more than ever to fulfill its mission to provide excellence and full satisfaction to its clients through quality products and extensive detailed service.
In celebrating its 100th Year Anniversary, the family searches new exciting avenues that improve and diversify the longstanding relationship within the local market.
